This Internet Marketing Course will help you understand the basic concepts of Digital/Online Marketing. You’ll learn how each of these major Internet /Digital Marketing components can help you attract additional Web site visitors and keep them coming back for more, as well as how to implement them in a very cost-effective manner.
What is “Internet Marketing”?
Webopedia, defines Internet Marketing, or Online Marketing, as “advertising and marketing efforts that use the Web and e-mail to drive direct sales via e-commerce as well as sales leads from Web sites or emails”. And what that typically means in real terms to most Web entrepreneurs is, “How do I attract more relevant new/first time visitors to MY Web site?”
Internet Marketing and the “Top of The Sales Funnel”
What should YOU do to attract relevant new/first time visitors to YOUR Web site? If you take only one concept away from your visit to this Internet Marketing Course, make it this one:
Internet Marketing, when applied to the “Top of the Sales Funnel” (i.e. the point at which new/first time visitors “enter” your Web site based on search engine searches) is all about INFORMING and EDUCATING those visitors about your product, service or cause. Do NOT try to sell them anything initially – instead help them understand your subject area better than your competitors.
This concept is also known as Inbound Marketing. And inbound marketing is all about creating RELEVANT CONTENT for YOUR Web site, blog, Facebook page, Twitter “tweets”, YouTube videos, etc. that INFORMS and EDUCATES and is targeted at YOUR best potential customers. (To learn more about Inbound Marketing, visit HubSpot, especially their Inbound Marketing for Small Businesses section.)
Why take the “Inform and Educate” root? Think about why those folks are using a search engine like Google in the first place – it’s typically to INFORM and EDUCATE themselves about a product, service or cause! If you are the one doing the best job at providing that information and education, those new/first time visitors will turn into YOUR potential customers!
Inform and educate, inform and educate, inform and educate…
Now, on to the Internet Marketing Course. One of the major components of Internet Marketing is Search Engine Marketing (SEM), a multi-faceted Internet Marketing topic in and of itself. So let’s start the Internet Marketing Course there:

* About the Video:
Why have I put this hugely popular Blendtec “Will It Blend” video ad featuring an iPad at the top of this site’s Home Page? (Over 17 MILLION YouTube views and climbing!)
Did you watch the video? Did you watch it in its entirety? Did you watch it several times?
In other words, did this video ad engage you?
Welcome to the online video sharing version of Social Networking, a hugely popular, rapidly growing Social Media Marketing application.
And for those of you involved in B2B (Business-to-Business) Internet Marketing, this is also a GREAT example of how Social Media Marketing can be effectively used in the B2B world. The Blendtec “Will It Blend” ad series was originally created to act as a door opener for Blendtec Sales Reps who were having a tough time getting interviews with hard-to-see buyers at major retailers.
One last point: You were just entertained AND branded by an ad that cost Blendtec nothing to distribute (and not much more than that to produce)! Guess online (viral) video advertising works for the advertiser as well as the viewer! In fact, it worked so well that Blendtec now has its own YouTube Channel!
