Internet Marketing Tip – Use Inbound Marketing Techniques

Part of the 999 Internet Marketing Tips Series

Internet Marketing Tip #6: Concentrate your Internet Marketing efforts on INBOUND INTERNET MARKETING Techniques.

As you begin your Internet Marketing adventure, I strongly urge you to focus your Internet Marketing efforts on what has become known as INBOUND (INTERNET) MARKETING.

What is inbound marketing and why emphasize it?

Inbound Internet Marketing is focused on:

1) Creating quality, useful content that addresses the needs of your audience and then “distributing” that content both on your Web site and on other Web properties that link back to your Web site,

2) Search engine optimization of that content so it can be easily found by those prospects actively looking for it via search engines like Google, and

3) Participating in the online “conversation” about your products or services via the use of online social media (for most B2B Marketers, this last point will be focused on blogging).

Why these techniques? Because the average sales prospect, whether B2B or B2C, is inundated with “Outbound Marketing” every waking hour of every day.

These outbound marketing techniques include trade shows, seminar series, email blasts to purchased lists, internal cold calling, outsourced telemarketing, and traditional advertising (TV, radio, printed media, etc.).

Internet Marketing Tip – Install Microsoft Expression Web SuperPreview

Part of the 999 Internet Marketing Tips Series

Internet Marketing Tip #5: If you have NOT installed “Microsoft Expression Web SuperPreview for Internet Explorer” on your computer, STOP EVERYTHING AND DO IT IMMEDIATELY.

Oh Oh! That’s two “Stop Everything and Do It Immediately” Internet Marketing Tips in a row! What’s going on?

Why do you need to download/install this application? Because Version 6 of Microsoft’s Internet Explorer Web browser (“IE6″) will just not die!

Even though Microsoft has discontinued support for IE6 and introduced much improved IE versions 7, 8 and 9, IE6 continues to be used, mainly by some of the largest corporations in the US!

Why is this important? Because IE6 does NOT properly display Web sites using the latest Web site architecture (Divs and cascading style sheets) while the newer IE versions and all other popular browsers (FireFox, Safari, Google Chrome, etc.) do display these Web sites as intended.

So if you’re building your own Web site, you better have a way to “see” how that site is being displayed in IE6.

I just found out about this Microsoft application because the IE6 monster reared its ugly head on one of my recent Web site re-designs.

The Web site is for a community youth basketball league, so I thought IE6 would NOT be a problem because the overwhelming number of site visitors would be using home computers that no longer had IE6 installed on them. Wrong!

Internet Marketing Tip #4: If you have NOT installed the free Google Analytics application on your Web properties, STOP EVERYTHING AND DO IT IMMEDIATELY.

Why? Because if you don’t know your Web site’s baseline analytics (visits, visitors, traffic sources, keyword search phrases and much more) how will you ever know if your Internet Marketing efforts are helping to improve your site’s online presence?

And not only is Google Analytics considered by many to be one of the best analytics applications available, did I mention that Google Analytics is a free service?!

You will need a Google Account to set up Google Analytics, but you should already have one of those as well! More on that point in future Internet Marketing tips.

If it’s starting to sound like I work for Google, I do not. So why am I singing Google’s praises? If one of your main Internet Marketing goals is to rank highly in Google for specific keyword search phrases, then don’t you think you should know how Google works?!

Internet Marketing Tip #3 – If you are an organization that depends on generating interest/business from your LOCAL MARKET, then you should RUN, not walk to GOOGLE PLACES and claim your location!

Don’t know what Google Places is? Even more reason to click on the link above and find out!

One recent Google estimate is that 20-25% of ALL searches made on Google have some type of local aspect to them. And that percentage is growing!

Here’s a video by a Google Product Manager involved with Local Search that gives a quick overview of how Google computes local search relevance – in other words, what results get shown first for particular local search phrases.

The video also covers several recent additions to Google Places that will help organizations stand out more prominently in Google search results – Google Hotpot, Tags and Boost.

Internet Marketing Tip – Inform and Educate

Part of the 999 Internet Marketing Tips Series

By Dave Ingalls
November 22, 2010

If you read Internet Marketing Tip #1, then you have specific end goals in mind for your upcoming Internet/Web endeavor.

Before we get down to the specific Internet Marketing techniques that you can use to meet those end goals, let’s discuss one more general attribute your online presence should have.

Internet Marketing Tip #2: Your online presence should INFORM and EDUCATE, and that information/education should be FREE.

Why should your Internet/Web endeavor inform and educate? Because one of the most important Internet Marketing techniques we’ll be covering in future tips is Search Engine Marketing (SEM), specifically the Search Engine Optimization (SEO) of your online content.

If you start with the mindset that your online content is meant to INFORM and EDUCATE, then you’ll be more than half-way home at optimizing that content for the major search engines.

As an Internet/Web entrepreneur, you want people searching for information on the major search engines about the specific products or services you offer TO FIND YOUR INFORMATION FIRST.

Search Engines want to be known as the Internet/Web resource that provides the BEST ANSWERS to their visitors’ search questions.

Because of this, search engines spend countless dollars and man-hours optimizing their search formulas (“search algorithms”) to find and rank the BEST ANSWERS (content) to those questions as highly as possible in their search results.
